Birth Of Flying Elephants
Flying Elephants – A Destiny Beyond Business

In most cases, businesses are born from an idea or a well-thought-out plan. Almost 90% of the businesses we see around us follow that pattern. But ours? It’s not one of those. We never had an idea to start a business revolving around elephant toys. You might wonder, “Then how did this all begin?” Let me take you back to where it all started — the year 2021.
The Love for Elephants and Cars
From childhood, I’ve always had two deep fascinations — Cars and Elephants.
-
Elephants, especially the baby elephants, stole my heart for no specific reason. Their playful, notorious, yet empathetic nature always left me smiling. I would often share interesting elephant content on social media, and over time, my love for them only grew stronger.
-
On the other hand, cars were my obsession, just like many other kids. I grew up playing the popular computer game Need For Speed. The thrill of racing, knocking down opponents, customizing cars — I loved every bit of it.
As I completed my master’s degree and started my business (Olive Grapes), I often visited car showrooms for test drives. Though I couldn’t afford a car back then due to financial constraints, that never stopped me from dreaming and test-driving varieties of cars.

Marriage and Shared Interests
Fast forward to 2019, I got married. Over time, my wife too developed a fondness for elephants, although she didn’t share my enthusiasm for cars.
The Beginning of a New Chapter – Buying Our First Car
In 2021, I realized I was spending nearly ₹15,000 every month on cabs and autos for my business travels. One fine day, during a discussion with my wife about these expenses, I proposed the idea of buying a car.
She agreed, and the search for our first car began. I wanted an automatic car with all modern features — easy to drive, comfortable, and efficient.
Discovering “Jazzu Kutti”
That’s when I came across an advertisement for the Honda Jazz. I instantly loved it and shared it with my wife. She liked it too.
On February 14th, 2021, we went to see the car in Chennai for the first time. We both fell in love with it. By April 21st, 2021, we brought our Honda Jazz home. We affectionately named him “Jazzu Kutti”, meaning Little Jazzu.
Interestingly, the car is grey in color and, in many ways, resembles a baby elephant — yet another sign from the universe, maybe?
Learning to Drive During the Pandemic
At that point, my driving experience was limited — barely 30 kms in my entire life. My wife didn’t know how to drive either.
It was during the second wave of COVID-19, with most roads empty. We lived in Harrington Road, known for its wide, quiet roads — the perfect place to learn driving.
Within a month, both of us got comfortable behind the wheel.
The Accidental Discovery – The Elephant Toy
Soon after, my wife suggested buying cute toys like dogs or caterpillars for our car. I liked the idea, so we set out to a popular supermarket in Chennai one afternoon.
The toy section was deserted, the lights were off — it was dark and quiet.
While casually walking behind my wife, a toy unexpectedly fell from the top rack onto my hand. To my surprise, it was a grey, mid-sized elephant toy.
I instantly fell in love with it and showed it to my wife. Though hesitant about the price, I was determined to buy it.
We brought the toy home, placed it on the driver’s seat, clicked a picture, and posted it on social media with the caption — “My Chauffeur”.
Friends and followers poured in with comments like, “Keep the toy, but give me the elephant!” We laughed it off at the time, unaware of what fate had in store.
When Boredom Turns into Business – The Birth of Flying Elephants
A month passed by. The COVID-19 pandemic deeply impacted businesses, including ours. Being in the branding industry, our work heavily depends on other businesses thriving.
With business slowing down, the idle time became frustrating.
That’s when the idea struck — Why not start an elephant-themed business?
The First Step
My wife took charge, sourcing materials, fabrics, fur, and packaging essentials. Around that time, we also watched the movie “Dumbo”, a heartwarming story of a baby elephant in a circus with the magical ability to fly.
Inspired by Dumbo, I proposed the name “Flying Elephants”, which my wife instantly loved.
We created an Instagram page — Flying Elephants_Official — and started selling elephant-themed toys and products.
Our Journey So Far
Our first elephant toy found a home with one of my friends. From there, our journey began.
In just 4 years, we have sold over 2000+ elephant toys, spreading love, joy, and adorable elephants to countless homes.
A Heartfelt Thank You
I take this moment to express my gratitude to:
-
The Universe, for guiding us on this unexpected yet beautiful path
-
My Mother, for her unconditional love
-

This wasn’t just about creating a business — it was about following our hearts, embracing destiny, and watching our love for elephants take flight.
